Italian construction and civil engineering services company Salini Impregilo has secured a bid for a €410m contract to build a stretch of motorway in Slovakia.

The company will have a 75% share in the project.

Awarded by the Slovakian National Motorway Authority, the contract involves the construction of a 13.4km section of the D1 motorway in the north of the country.

"The company will have a 75% share in the project."

Primary works include the construction of five overpasses with an overall length of 2.5km, and a 7.5km-long twin-tube tunnel.

The stretch is funded by the EU through the European Investment Bank and the Slovakian Government.

Work on the project is slated to begin in the second half of the year, and will continue for five and a half years.

Earlier this month, Salini Impregilo, together with STRABAG of Austria, secured a contract for the main section of the Brenner Base Tunnel in Austria.
