South Korean wireless telecommunications operator SK Telecom has unveiled internet of things (IOT) smart car technology to control a car using a smartphone.

Dubbed Smart Auto Scan, the new technology offers complete information related to the car and conveniently helps with its management and driving environment.

With 157 different codes for ways that the car can break down, the Smart Auto Scan is said to perform auto-scan detection, scan driving and eco-mode functions, as well as monitoring the car for malfunctions.

“The new technology offers complete information related to the car and conveniently helps with its management and driving environment.”

Using the new technology, the driver will be able to easily identify the vehicle’s condition, BusinessKorea reported.

According to the company, the technology features has 51 types of driving records and 19 types of sensor information.

Vehicle condition monitoring, eco-index and black box software can be tracked using a scan drive feature, which provides data using T-map traffic information.

Integrated with an eco-mode function, the scan drive feature provides a real-time fuel-efficiency ranking and a car diary.

The driver can use the Smart Auto Scan feature, which comprises a scanner and mobile application set, to download the application.

SK Telecom said the scanner can be set up in gasoline and diesel vehicles that are onboard diagnostics-compliant.
