Global construction company Skanska has secured an NOK516m ($60.2m) contract from Norwegian Public Roads Administration, for renovating Ekeberg and Svartdal tunnels on the E6 and E18 highways in Oslo, Norway.

As part of the project works, Skanska will be responsible for carrying out electrical works, fire protection and providing an improved cleaning solution for water from the tunnels.

Skanska will also construct new technical buildings, upgrade existing evacuation routes, add a new layer of asphalt, and replace all signs.

The works are expected to begin later this year and are slated for completion by 2019.

“Skanska will be responsible for carrying out electrical works, fire protection and providing an improved cleaning solution for water from the tunnels.”

In order to reduce the impact on traffic flow, Skanska will be carrying out the majority of these works at night.

Earlier this month, Skanska and its joint venture partner Ames Construction secured a $244m contract from Riverside County Transportation Commission to build express lanes on the I-15 freeway in California, US.

The company has been active in development and construction projects in the Nordic region, as well as residential and commercial property projects in select home markets.

With a workforce of more than 15,000 employees, Skanska’s has been offering its services in public-private partnerships and commercial development projects across Denmark.
