Transport for London (TfL) is to perform essential work on the A406 Southend Road in north-east London, UK, in order to maintain and modernise the major roads.

To be performed by Ringway Jacobs, the work would take place from 25 July until mid-October.

The work will be performed on the existing carriageway surface of the A406 Southend Road between the Waterworks roundabout and Charlie Brown’s roundabout.

"This vital work will ensure that the road can remain in a good condition for years to come."

Work will take place on the eastbound carriageway from 25 July to 18 September and on the westbound carriageway from 19 September until mid-October.

TfL has coordinated the work to minimise traffic disruption and clashes will be avoided with the ongoing work taking place at the nearby Fore Street Tunnel.

TfL surface transport chief operating officer Garrett Emmerson said: "While there is obviously no perfect time to close an essential road for maintenance, this vital work will ensure that the road can remain in a good condition for years to come.

"Once completed, it will reduce the need for future work, while ensuring traffic can continue to flow on a quieter, smoother carriageway."
