TomTom and its partner AutoNavi have teamed up with Audi in China to provide real-time traffic information for the manufacturer’s vehicles.

According to TomTom, China has been a growing global car market for several years and despite many efforts such as limiting new vehicle registrations and building new roads, continues to face traffic problems, particularly in populated urban areas.

Under the new partnership, TomTom Traffic will offer Audi drivers accurate and up-to-date traffic information for major and secondary roads in China. The service is currently providing real-time traffic information using its OpenLR location-referencing software in 33 countries worldwide.

"With the real-time traffic information of TomTom, drivers can get to their destinations faster."

TomTom Traffic head Ralf-Peter Schäfer said that the company’s partnership with Audi is a significant step in its growth strategy.

"When purchasing a new car, navigation is one of the most frequently requested features in a vehicle," Schäfer said.

"With the real-time traffic information of TomTom, drivers can get to their destinations faster. This also aims to ease traffic congestion on China’s road networks."

As per the deal, TomTom and AutoNavi will initially deliver traffic services for the Audi A3 model.

Earlier this year, TomTom announced the expansion of its real-time traffic service to China, Taiwan and Singapore to help drivers, businesses and governments better tackle the traffic congestion.
