Dutch traffic, navigation and mapping products provider TomTom has launched a new traffic cooperation tool the Road Event Reporter that will enable traffic data exchange with cities, road authorities and other associated mobility stakeholders.

With a user-friendly design, the new tool will allow selected customers and partners to share latest traffic data such as accidents, road-works or any form of road hazards with other connected road users.

The information gets disseminated in real time directly to the in-car navigation systems, GPS navigation devices or mobile applications.

"By sharing their traffic incident data with us, road authorities, transportation companies and other mobility players using Road Event Reporter can directly influence the traffic."

TomTom Traffic and Travel vice president Ralf-Peter Schäfer said: “Accurate and fresh traffic data helps drivers and fleet managers route around problematic areas.

"This saves time, fuel and reduces emissions.

“This data can also be used to monitor and analyse traffic and network performance.

“By sharing their traffic incident data with us, road authorities, transportation companies and other mobility players using Road Event Reporter can directly influence the traffic, reducing overall congestion.”

The company claims that the Road Event Reporter will be effective to end the gap between road authorities and road users by streamlining traffic information.

TomTom claims that the introduction of this tool will be another step towards ending traffic congestion and improve mobility across the world.

Recently, the company launched TomTom City portal that will allow closer cooperation with cities, road authorities and other road stakeholders in improving mobility.
