TransCore has secured a five year extension to a collection system and customer service centre maintenance services contract from Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission (OTIC).

The contract has been extended until 31 May 2021.

TransCore will maintain all aspects of the OTIC’s toll collection system across Ohio’s turnpike network, as well as the customer service centre system located in Berea.

"Our top priority has always been the safety of motorists traveling on the Ohio Turnpike."

OTIC executive director Randy Cole said: "For more than 60 years, our top priority has always been the safety of motorists traveling on the Ohio Turnpike.

"Having designed and reliably maintained so many of our tolling systems, we are confident that TransCore will ensure our systems continue to operate safely, accurately, and efficiently."

TransCore was first selected by OTIC in 1975 as toll collection system maintenance provider.

Since then, TransCore has developed, deployed, and maintained additional toll system technologies.

In 2008, TransCore was selected by OTIC to deploy a thorough electronic toll collection system.

This system introduced Ohio Turnpike motorists to E-ZPass toll collection.

The firm upgraded equipment in 97 entry and 132 exit lanes, and also offered new customer payment convenience with 20 automatic toll payment machines.

Touch screen terminals, weigh-in-motion sensors, overhead laser scanners, and both pre- and post-class vehicle classification sensors were integrated with TransCore’s Digital Video Audit System.

Further, TransCore developed and installed a customer service centre application and corresponding disaster recovery site. These will be maintained under the extended agreement.
