The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDoT) in the US has awarded $625m Southern Gateway reconstruction and improvement project to Pegasus Link Constructors.

Pegasus is a joint venture (JV) between Fluor (55%) and Balfour Beatty (45%).

As part of the deal, the JV will be responsible for the design-build and capital maintenance Southern Gateway, which is located along Interstate I-35E and US 67 in Dallas, Texas.

The project works include reconstruction and widening of both general-purpose and non-tolled managed lanes on the 11-mile road between the City of Dallas and Dallas County.

Upon completion of the project, the transport agency expects it to reduce traffic congestion, as well as improve safety and mobility along I-35E from US 67 to I-30 and from where US 67 splits at I-35E to I-20.

"The project is slated to begin later this year and is expected to be complete by 2021."

Fluor infrastructure business president Hans Dekker said: “Fluor is proud to lead the joint venture team that will oversee the design-build and capital maintenance of this project.

“Our team brings an integrated solutions approach to designing and building complex mega-projects and our long-standing relationship with Balfour Beatty solidifies our ability to deliver complex projects for Texas.”

Working in partnership with TxDoT, the project is slated to begin later this year and is expected to be complete by 2021.

The project is expected to generate nearly 700 employment opportunities during the peak stage of construction. The completed project is also expected to significantly reduce the ongoing capital maintenance demands along Southern Gateway, which is reported to be one of the US's key transportation corridors.
