A survey by car leasing company Flexed has revealed that a majority of UK road users wish to be asked about future legislation for drivers to counteract ‘war on motorists’.

Flexed.co.uk spokesperson Mark Hall said: "The average driver thinks they’re being targeted for fines and taxes every time they take to the road with nothing being done to make their lives easier or cheaper.

"No wonder they’re bursting at the seams with new traffic laws, no matter how daft."

When Flexed asked more than 1,200 cars and commercial vehicles drivers about existing road laws and regulations, 76% of them said they thought it was a government’s ‘war on motorists.’

"The government scrapped the tax disc last year, and now would be a good time to get rid of the ‘road tax’ for once and for all."

According to the survey, 69% of drivers responded saying that road ministers and local councils are not willing to listen to drivers’ opinion and 56% would like a say in proposing traffic laws through a suggestions and referendum scheme.

Flexed asked drivers as to what law they would pass to make the roads better if they were in charge of the country.

They said pizza delivery drivers will be given blue flashing lights and sirens similar to those of emergency vehicles, as they are also doing important work.

Others said drivers who get stuck in traffic jams caused by road works should be given free petrol coupons.

A few of them said they would pass legally enforceable minimum speeds on certain roads as slow drivers cause jams and frustration.

Some said that vehicle excise duty needs to be scrapped and increase tax slightly at the petrol pump and electrical charging points.
