The UK is set to commence work on a major project which is aimed at reducing traffic congestion and improving safety at Junction 10 of the M42.

A part of a £317m pinch point improvement programme, the new scheme will include widening of the Trinity Road approach to the roundabout in order to improve two-lane entry.

It involves widening of the road opposite the A5 eastbound carriageway to the roundabout, as well as the M42 northbound slip-road to

"By increasing lane capacity, congestion will be reduced."

The project also includes installation of new road markings, paving and traffic lights to help motorists and pedestrians, and is scheduled for completion by July.

The UK Highways Agency’s pinch point programme is designed to boost local economies, reduce congestion as well as improve safety on the strategic road network in England.

Scheme project sponsor Jess Kenny said: "The work will provide benefits for all road users using this busy junction. By increasing lane capacity, congestion will be reduced and journey times will improve for motorists.

"Safety is a top priority for the Highways Agency and this scheme will also deliver enhanced crossing points for pedestrians."

Overnight diversions will be in place between 8pm and 6am when the the work starts.
