The UK’s Department for Transport (DfT) will undertake a review of legislation and regulations to ensure that there is a clear and appropriate regime to enable driverless cars to be tested on UK roads.

The purpose of the review is to establish the issues that will be needed to be addressed to ensure the testing of driverless cars on the streets while making sure that the roads are safe for citizens.

"The government had announced the plan to review regulations and frameworks for testing driverless cars in 2013.."

It will look at both national and EU regulations affecting the use of vehicles on UK roads.

The government had announced the plan to review regulations and frameworks for testing driverless cars in 2013.

The review will primarily focus on the testing of high-automation driverless cars while noting any related issues to the testing of other vehicle types.

As a part of the review, the department is asking for suggestions from citizens until 19 September on any other issues that need to be addressed with regards to testing, as well as areas where new regulations may be required to maintain road safety and provide the appropriate safeguards in the introduction of the new technology.
