Canadian company International Road Dynamics (IRD) has been awarded a traffic data collection installation and maintenance contract by the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT).

Valued at $7.34m, the new contract will see IRD responsible for the installation, modernisation, operation, maintenance, and repair of the permanently integrated traffic data collection sites located within the US state of New York for a period of five years.

IRD president and chief executive officer Terry Bergan said: “We are pleased to receive long-term term commitment to provide installation and maintenance services to the state of New York.

"These six traffic data collection sites are used by the NYSDOT to collect, summarise, and interpret traffic data based on the US state's highways system."

“This agreement complements the award IRD previously obtained for permanent traffic data collection maintenance and upgrades within New York City and Long Island.

“Contracts such as this add to our recurring revenues and align with our corporate strategy to pursue growth in our expanding maintenance and data services business.”

The New York state has six types of traffic data collection sites that are covered under the current IRD contract.

The six sites are automatic vehicle classification (AVC), permanent short count (PSC), continuous count (CC), wireless vehicle detection systems, weigh-in-motion (WIM) and shared traffic data collection sites.

These six traffic data collection sites are used by the NYSDOT to collect, summarise, and interpret traffic data based on the US state's highways system.

The traffic data is used to assess transportation needs and infrastructure performance, and also to develop planning and programming recommendations.
