Veidekke Entreprenør has secured a NKr727m ($92.5m) contract to build the first section of the E134 Damåsen – Saggrenda project near Kongsberg in Buskerud county, Norway.

As part of the contract signed with the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, the company will build 3km of four-lane main road, an interchange at Damåsen and the Kongsberg tunnel with a 2km two-bore tunnel.

"A stretch with a high-accident rate will be replaced by a new and safe road for the benefit of both through traffic and traffic to and from Kongsberg and Numedal."

The Scandinavian construction and property development company will also build about one kilometre of the new secondary road 286, including a new access road to Damåsen Pukkverk and a parking lot at Diseplass.

Three Damåsen, Diseplass and Majorplassen bridges (passover) and two tunnel portals at the eastern tunnel entry will also be built under the contract terms.

According to the company, the 5km section to be built by it runs from Tislegård in Kongsberg and east to Damåsen towards Drammen.

Veidekke Entreprenør project manager Neal Nordahl said: "Together we will complete a first-class project for road users.

"Here, a stretch with a high-accident rate will be replaced by a new and safe road for the benefit of both through traffic and traffic to and from Kongsberg and Numedal. Now we are looking forward to getting started with the work."

Works on the project are slated to begin in June 2015, with completion expected to take place by November 2018.
