Construction company Vinci has signed a 54-year concession contract worth €500m, to build the 24km western Strasbourg bypass in France.

According to the deal, Vinci will also finance, design, maintain and operate the project.

The deal has been signed between Vinci and France’s Ministry for Ecology, Sustainable Development, Transport and Housing.

A dual two-lane carriageway section will be built between A4/A35 in the north and A352/A35 junction in the south.

"The new carriageway aims aims to reduce traffic congestion, enhance safety and ease mobility in the Strasbourg bypass region."

The road project will be completely funded by Vinci, with no public subsidy involved in the scheme.

Expected to be completed in 56 months, the new carriageway aims to reduce traffic congestion, enhance safety and ease mobility in the Strasbourg bypass region.

The engineering work related to the project will be executed by CBDI, Ingérop and IUR, while the design-build works will be undertaken by a joint venture comprising Dodin Campenon Bernard, VINCI Construction France, VINCI Construction Terrassement, VINCI Energies and Eurovia.

The design and construction phase of the project will make room for an average of 1,000 direct and indirect jobs every year during the period of the work.

The project will include a variety of sustainable development measures and the introduction of a sufficient environmental management plan over the entire duration of the concession.

A multimodal hub will also be established to help drivers and different public transport users to easily connect with other regional transport modes.

After the completion of the carriageway, Vinci Autoroutes subsidiary will take care of the operation, maintenance, and toll collection.

Last August, Vinci signed a public-private partnership (PPP) contract for 30 years to complete and operate the highway bypass of Regina in Canada.
