The Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) in Virginia, US, has awarded 15 new contracts worth about $144.6m for construction and paving projects across the state.

The new projects will extend the life of state roads and bridges, while improving the safety and traffic flow.

In northern Virginia, the CTB has awarded a $26.3m contract to Shirley Contracting Company for the extension of Gloucester Parkway as a four-lane divided highway between the Loudoun County Parkway and Pacific Boulevard in Loudoun County.

The state has awarded another contract in the region to American Infrastructure-VA to replace Walney Bridge with a four-lane structure as well as widen a section of the road.

In southwest Virginia, the CTB has awarded nearly $7.5m contract to G4S Technology to install technology improvements as part of an active traffic and safety management system on I-77.

The new technology upgrade alerts motorists to potential weather and traffic hazards in the Fancy Gap area in Carroll County.

About $21.2m contracts have also been awarded for pavement and rehabilitation works on Interstate 264 and Interstate 64, respectively in Eastern Virginia.

The CTB has awarded an additional ten contracts, worth nearly $78.4m, for interstate pavement work in Montgomery, Spotsylvania, Stafford, Fairfax and Arlington counties; and pavement works on several primary roads around state.

It also includes one contract for paving work on secondary roads in Fairfax County.
