Waze, a free real-time crowd-sourced navigation app, has collaborated with Spotify, a global music streaming app, which will enable Britain’s 45.5 million drivers to play their music safely without interrupting their traffic navigation.

To be rolled out to Android users over the next few weeks, the new feature will enable drivers’ directions and playlists to appear on the same screen to create a seamless driving experience.

Waze UK head Finlay Clark said: “We are delighted to team up with Spotify to create a new function that allows Wazers to enjoy their favourite music, while being re-routed around traffic in real- time.

“Safety is our priority at Waze.

"By discouraging drivers from tapping their device to switch between apps while on the move, we believe this partnership presents a valuable way for drivers in the UK to use their favourite technologies whilst concentrating fully on the road ahead.”

Once the destination is set on the phone, the music will play automatically when starting a drive or drivers can browse playlists safely when the car is pulled over or when it is completely stopped.

This feature has been introduced by the company, because the UK Government has introduced a new law, stating that drivers can use their mobile as a sat nav on the condition that it is secured in a holder and the device isn’t touched when behind the wheel.

It is reported that Waze app suggests the fastest and most optimal route possible to any destination, by tracking real-time traffic and road conditions from drivers’ phones – thus saving other local drivers time and fuel.
