Open Roads Consulting has secured a contract from the West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH) in the US to develop and deploy its first statewide 511 traveller information system..

The West Virginia 511 (WV511) system will provide travellers with real-time traffic and road condition information on all major corridors across the state and help reduce congestion.

The application will include a condition reporting system, interactive voice recognition (IVR) system, traveller information website, and data archive management system.

Open Roads has teamed with LogicTree Corporation and Global-5 Communications for the delivery of the new system, which is scheduled to be fully operational by mid-2012.

It will be deploying its OpenCRS condition reporting and data fusion engine to allow for the entire 511 data to be in one location, allowing operators to distribute information to all stakeholders, both internal and public.

The company noted that the system can integrate with existing WVDOH hardware including DMS, CCTV cameras and sensors, with access to real-time data from OpenTMS Enterprise – a statewide advanced traffic management system – and can also interface with stakeholder systems.
