The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) in the US will be carrying out road improvement works in Clearview, to partially ease traffic congestion for the drivers travelling on the State Route 9 in Snohomish County.

In January this year, WSDOT arranged a community meeting in order to review and discuss several options to improve traffic flow.

Washington State Department of Transportation project engineer John Chi said: “We really want the improvements to work for the people who live and drive through this area every day.

"By adjusting these signals, we should start making a dent in the traffic backups that occur regularly during peak commute times."

“We received a lot of good feedback during the meeting and one of the changes we’re making was prompted by suggestions from community members.”

WSDOT will begin the road improvement works next month, and during this period it will re-time as well as reconfigure traffic signals to reduce congestion through several key intersections.

WSDOT traffic engineer Miguel Gavino said: “By adjusting these signals, we should start making a dent in the traffic backups that occur regularly during peak commute times.

“With each change, we’ll monitor traffic conditions to determine if additional improvements are possible.”

The transportation department has further explained that they would implement some changes at key intersection including SR 9 at 164th Street Southeast and SR 9 at 176th Street Southeast and Cathcart Way.

The Washington State Legislature has already provided funding for completing the design work and some right-of-way acquisition only.

WSDOT estimates that another $52m will be required to complete the construction works.
