Japanese automaker Nissan’s luxury vehicle division Infiniti Motor Company is set to introduce new vehicles with electrified powertrains from 2021.

The new models will be pure electric vehicles (EV) or e-POWER vehicles equipped with the low-emission vehicle technology.

Infiniti’s in-house e-POWER technology includes a small petrol engine that charges a high-output battery, thereby completely eliminating the need for an external charging source.

The technology was stated to offer the same driving experience as a pure EV.

Infiniti continues to emphasise on low-emission technology and expects that by 2025 more than half of its vehicles sold will be powered by electric.

Last week, Nissan Motor, in collaboration with Kansai Electric Power (KEPCO) and Sumitomo Electric Industries, started testing tools to charge electric vehicles through remote control.

Under the testing programme, EV switches will be installed in 60 customer-owned electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles.

The switches will serve as control instruments for electric vehicle charging.

All three parties have decided to connect their servers to enable remote-control charging, procure vehicle information and identify available charging capacity.

The test forms part of the Kansai VPP Project that aims to integrate multiple power sources to create a flexible power supply.

As the usage of electric vehicles is increasing, Nissan, KEPCO and Sumitomo Electric are working together to ensure a stable electricity supply for the vehicles.
