US-based company Pilot Flying J has partnered with wireless traffic detection and parking data provider Sensys Networks to launch a new myPilot app, which is expected to deliver real-time information regarding parking availability to users.

A total of 30 Pilot Flying J locations across the I-5 corridor from San Diego to Seattle, as well as one location in Knoxville, have been equipped with sensor systems to gather and feed real-time parking availability data to users of the myPilot app.

"We are pleased to see our IoT platform and patented MicroRadar sensors help Pilot Flying J address this critical market need by providing accurate, reliable, real-time space availability data."

Pilot Flying J president Ken Parent said: “Through this partnership, our goal is to provide professional drivers access to real-time, accurate information on space availability through our myPilot app to not only help drivers plan more efficiently and cut down on wasted fuel costs, but also increase safety and e-log compliance.”

The partnership will see the company use Sensys Networks’ sensor technology to provide real-time information procured from travel centre locations to the myPilot app, enabling drivers to secure parking spaces at locations along their route.

The new app will also enable them to access total truck parking spaces and available spaces in real time, as well as view and purchase Prime Parking spots.

Sensys Networks CEO Amine Haoui said: “More than 75% of commercial truck drivers report regularly experiencing problems with finding safe parking, and on average spend 30 minutes looking for parking.

“We are pleased to see our IoT platform and patented MicroRadar sensors help Pilot Flying J address this critical market need by providing accurate, reliable, real-time space availability data.”

Both parties intend to expand the available access to parking information next year, while the timeline and details are currently being finalised.
