Toyota Motor North America (TMNA) is set to roll out its second-generation Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) package of active safety features as standard equipment on some of its vehicles by mid-next year in the US.

The company claims the package will feature new technologies and capabilities that have been designed to further enhance the safety of the driver, passengers, and others who share the road.

The second generation of TSS includes technologies such as pre-collision system, lane departure alert, road sign assist, lane tracing assist, and full-speed-range dynamic radar cruise control.

It has been expanded to improve driver situational awareness while providing additional protections for a pedestrian or bicyclist in front of the vehicle.

“At Toyota, we are committed to making high-level driver assistance systems more widely available and even more affordable across a broader range of our vehicles.”

TMNA product support executive vice-president and chief quality officer Chris Nielsen said: “At Toyota, we are committed to making high-level driver assistance systems more widely available and even more affordable across a broader range of our vehicles.

“The second generation of Toyota Safety Sense takes our industry-leading suite of safety technologies to the next level, delivering new advanced and intuitive protections that are another step toward a future without traffic injuries or fatalities.”

Toyota claims that its new TSS has been designed to improve safety, reduce accidents and ease traffic congestion.

Furthermore, the company plans to expand TSS capabilities with automated safety systems and technology as research and development progresses.

By the end of this year, TSS and LSS+ will be standard on almost every model in the Toyota and Lexus lineups.
