In July 2020, American Road Patch was applied to repair a pothole on Hemus Highway near Sofia, Bulgaria.
The project involved repairing the pothole with asphalt mixture and then sealing it with American Road Patch.
Method
The pothole was cropped and all loose pavement was removed. Surface was cleaned and prepared. All dirt, dust and debris was swept in order to ensure good bonding to the pavement surface.
The pothole was filled with HMA. The mixture was compacted slightly lower than the pavement surface, allowing the patch to be laid as close to the same level as the road surface.
The full surface was preheated with a propane torch for a better application. In cooler weather, below 24°C, the road surface must be heated up via torch to 104°C as ARP is laid down. An infrared thermometer is essential to ensure the road surface is heated to the correct temperature.
The ARP was laid down and rammed by manual rammer and also with vibrating plate.
Seven months later
Inspection and monitoring on 19 January 2021 (after seven months of use) shows ARP bonded to the surface excellently, no issues with snowplows. The product seals the pothole from coming water and snow during the winter period.
