Transdyn was recently awarded a contract by the Maryland Transportation Authority to upgrade the Ft. McHenry tunnel DYNAC intelligent transportation system (ITS) by integrating a new lane control signal (LCS) and a dynamic message sign (DMS) systems. The upgraded system will enable the authority to improve driver safety, reduce tunnel congestion and power consumption.
Transdyn will provide DYNAC database and graphics modifications along with programmable logic control (PLC) changes to support the new LCS and DMS systems.
Under a previous contract, Transdyn designed and built a state-of-the-art ITS system that manages traffic and facilities for the Baltimore Harbor and Ft. McHenry tunnels, two of the busiest tunnels in the US. At the authority’s operations center, the system combines various and differing legacy subsystems at these facilities into a common central platform that provides an integrated operator interface for managing each tunnel.
The Maryland Transportation Authority is responsible for constructing, managing, operating, and improving the State’s toll facilities as well as financing new revenue-producing transportation projects. The authority’s seven toll facilities, including a turnpike, two tunnels and four bridges, help keep traffic moving in Maryland.
