Internet of Things (IoT) solutions provider Aeris has collaborated with Barnacle Parking Enforcement to streamline the vehicle parking enforcement process by using IoT.

Barnacle Parking Enforcement focuses on providing technological solutions to make parking enforcement in communities efficient, convenient and safe for everyone.

In 2016, it introduced Barnacle, a bright yellow, 16-pound device that can be attached to a vehicle’s windshield using suction cups.

Parking officials can use this device instead of boot to immobilise a vehicle and prevent the wheels from moving. Barnacle device should be placed across the vehicle’s windshield and armed with a keypad.

It can be disarmed from the vehicle owner’s phone, paying the fine online or by dialling a toll-free number.

Under the collaboration, Aeris is providing an IoT connectivity solution for these Barnacles.

“The Aeris IoT Connectivity platform provides us cost-effective global IoT connectivity for all deployed Barnacles around the world.”

The usage of Aeris IoT Connectivity platform is expected to facilitate monitoring process of the Bernacles, as well as streamline personnel deployment process.

Barnacle Parking Enforcement co-founder and CEO Kevin Dougherty said: “Together with Aeris we are working to make the necessary process of parking enforcement more efficient and convenient for everyone involved, including the motorist.

“The Aeris IoT Connectivity platform provides us cost-effective global IoT connectivity for all deployed Barnacles around the world.”

Parking enforcement officials use a Barnacle web app to manage the IoT-enable devices.

Through the app, the officials can track the deployed Barnacles, review their status, process payments, as well as run reports on fines collected.

This app features a worldwide map to allow users to track all deployed Barnacle devices.

The usage of the Barnacle leads to less carbon emissions from tow trucks and deployment vehicles, reduces maintenance and results in less storage space requirement.
