US-based AEye has unveiled AE100, a new robotic perception system based on its Intelligent Detection and Ranging (iDAR) technology for autonomous vehicles, ADAS, and mobility markets.

The iDAR technology is a new form of intelligent data collection that enables rapid, dynamic perception and enhanced path planning.

Integrating MOEMS LiDAR, pre-fused and bore-sighted with a low-light HD video camera with artificial intelligence and associated software and hardware solutions, iDAR can cater to the real-time demands of autonomous vehicles.

AEye founder and CEO Luis Dussan said: “The AE100 is a game-changer for the autonomous vehicle and ADAS markets, as it makes iDAR technology commercially available for the first time.

“iDAR-based robotic perception allows sensors to mimic the visual cortex – bringing real-time intelligence to data collection.

“As a result, the system not only captures everything in a scene – it actually brings higher resolution to key objects and exceeds industry required speeds and distances.”

The AE100 maps the surroundings using dynamic patterns and its software definable scanning provides higher 3D resolution over legacy systems.

The system also detects every object between scans while identifying and resolving any temporal anomalies thereby reducing scan gaps and improving response time.

It increases the effective range at comparable resolution by more than seven times over currently installed LiDAR systems.

The AE100 is expected to become available from the middle of this year to original equipment manufacturers and Tier 1s introducing autonomous vehicle initiatives.
