BC General Contracting has secured a contract for a road improvement project in the City of West Kelowna in Canada.

The company will move to the site in the second week of this month to carry out the project, which includes road and area upgrades between McGinnis and Glen Abbey Roads.

The work will also include the addition of a sidewalk connection to Webber Road and the realignment of the Glenrosa / McIver intersection.

BC General will also improve pedestrian access on McIver Road, from Glenrosa to McTaggart, and construct drainage works on McTaggart Road.

West Kelowna Mayor Gord Milsom said: “Council identified this project as one of our key Invest in Infrastructure priorities because of the important safety improvements it would introduce in this very active corridor.

“We appreciate the contractor’s efforts to adjust their work so that they can proceed during Covid-19 and encourage residents to be patient with the traffic disruptions and other construction inconveniences that are inevitable on a project of this scale.”

Set to occur in phases, construction on the project is scheduled for completion early next year.

Over the next several months, temporary traffic detours will be implemented. Other work will include foundation and grading roadwork, sidewalk, curb and gutter work and road paving and area restoration.

Crews will move equipment to the project corridor by the middle of this month and start site clearing, asphalt stripping and complete utility relocates.

City of West Kelowna Engineering and Public Works director Allen Fillion said: “We have started with our communication to residents along the corridor and will continue to provide updates as the project progresses.”
