The Connecticut Department of Transportation (ConnDOT) in the US has announced the replacement plan for Bridge 01081 on Route 71 over Sodom Brook in the city of Meriden.

The project to replace the bridge will be completed in four stages. Work includes the construction of a new utility bridge and vehicular bridge, as well as a new water main, paving, and line striping.

Scheduled to begin on 9 July, the bridge project is expected to be completed by June 2020.

The new Bridge 01081 will feature four lanes, as well as sidewalks on the north and south sides.

“A temporary bridge structure will be installed during the second stage to help traffic continue on Route 71 over Sodom Brook during the replacement of the existing bridge.”

During the construction period the existing structure will be removed and replaced, with temporary roadways and a bridge being built to help manage traffic throughout the project.

Traffic will be redirected to the newly constructed bridge once the project is completed, with the surrounding area being restored.

Shultz was awarded the DOT project number 0079-0229 at a cost of $3.96m.

Access from West Main Street to Capital Avenue will be closed during second and fourth stages of the project.
