CPB Contractors has won a contract from the Australian federal and New South Wales (NSW) Governments to carry out the next stage of The Northern Road upgrade project.

Under the construct-only contract, CPB Contractors will upgrade existing road infrastructure between Luddenham and Glenmore Park.

The contract forms part of the A$1.6bn ($1.13bn) The Northern Road upgrade project and is expected to provide approximately A$170m ($120.51m) in revenue for CPB Contractors.

CIMIC Group CEO Michael Wright said: “The Northern Road upgrade project will support the development of an upgraded road network and capitalise on the benefits from the new Western Sydney Airport at Badgerys Creek, which CPB Contractors is now proudly laying the foundations for with its JV partner.”

Under The Northern Road upgrade project, road infrastructure between Littlefields Road in Luddenham and Glenmore Parkway in Glenmore Park will be upgraded. This includes upgrading 6.7km of road from two lanes to a divided four-lane alignment, with the provision of kerbside bus lanes at each intersection.

The Northern Road and Bringelly Road are being upgraded by the Australian and NSW governments as part of the A$3.6bn ($2.55bn) Western Sydney Infrastructure Plan to support integrated transport in the region.

CPB Contractors managing director Juan Santamaria said: “We have a strong construction presence in NSW and in the Western Sydney area as we deliver the early works for Western Sydney Airport, meaning our agile technical teams will bring local knowledge and industry-leading experience to ensure all client and community expectations are realised.”

Construction work is scheduled to start next year and expected to be completed by 2022.
