The Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) in the US has approved nine contracts valuing at around $61.1m for a construction project.

Contracts are for the project in the Virginia Department of Transportation’s (VDoT) Northern Virginia District.

Under the new approvals, CTB awarded a $7.1m contract to Ardent Company of McLean to carry out several improvement works in Rosslyn.

The project involves an area in North Lynn Street (Route 29) from northbound Lee Highway to southbound Lee Highway, as well as southbound Lee Highway (Route 29) from North Lynn Street to North Oak Street.

At the North Lynn Street, the scope of work includes construction of wider sidewalks, curb ramps improvement and a bike lane, as well as installation of new traffic signals and lighting.

The project will also see the improvement of intersections at southbound Lee Highway (Route 29) and North Lynn Street (Route 29), Fort Myer Drive and North Oak Street.

"The project is expected to be complete by 2020."

Other intersections include North Lynn Street (Route 29) and southbound Lee Highway (Route 29), North Lynn Street (Route 29) and northbound Lee Highway (Route 29).

Intersections at northbound Lee Highway (Route 29) and North Nash Street will also be upgraded.

Furthermore, the multi-use Custis Trail will be widened and moved away from the vehicle travel lanes.

The overall project is expected to be complete by 2020.

In addition, the CTB approved eight additional paving contracts valuing $54m in Bristol, Culpeper, Lynchburg and Hampton Roads and Lynchburg districts.

Last month, CTB awarded 23 projects valuing nearly $167.5m, while in January it awarded one contract worth $101.6m.

Previously known as the State Highway and Transportation Board, the 17-member CTB oversees VDoT.
