US-based carsharing service and Daimler North America subsidiary car2go has announced the expansion of its 2017 road safety course pilot programme.

Set to bolster car2go’s commitment to road safety goals, the company is expanding access to its free online road safety courses to its 625,000 US-based members as part of the programme.

car2go’s road safety programme rewarded members who completed the programme with free drive-time credit.

“Expanding our road safety education pilot to all US members is a big next step forward in car2go’s ongoing efforts to promote road safety.”

car2go CEO Paul DeLong said: “Cities across America are committed to fulfilling Vision Zero’s objective of eliminating road fatalities, and as the largest flexible carsharing service in North America we see it as car2go’s responsibility to support this increasingly important initiative dedicated to advancing road safety for all.

Focused on road safety and distracted driving, the online courses are provided by non-profit organisation National Safety Council (NSC).

NSC president and CEO Deborah Hersman said: “We know defensive drivers can help prevent every single car crash. NSC is pleased to partner with car2go in our mission to eliminate all deaths on our nation’s roadways.”

car2go noted that it will continue to evaluate the success of the road safety education pilot in a bid to make courses available to its Canadian members in the future.

car2go also provides road safety education and one-way carsharing services.
