Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has awarded two contracts to facilitate the development of phases three and four of the Expo 2020 project.

The combined value of the contracts is approximately AED1.3bn ($353m).

The contracts will see the construction of two flyovers and two intersections, as well as the conversion of a two-lane road at the Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street into five lanes.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) of India has awarded an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract worth Rs4.41bn ($67.83m) to the joint venture (JV) of Reliance Infrastructure (RInfra) and CAI, a tunnel construction company based in Ukraine.

Under the contract, RInfra will be responsible for the refurbishment of the NH 66 Kashedi Ghat section and the construction of 3.44km twin tunnels.

Other infrastructure such as viaducts and stopping lanes will also be built to reduce traffic congestion and accident risks.

The JV is expected to complete the project within 30 months, and will also operate and maintain the section for 48 months upon its completion.

The Government of the United Republic of Tanzania has secured an AED55m ($15m) loan from the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) to facilitate the development of Uvinza-Ilunde-Malagarasi Road in the country.

The loan will be used for the upgrade of the 51km-long carriageway with the reconstruction of existing internal and external shoulders.

ADFD will also act as a design consultant for the project.

Asian Development Bank (ADB) has sanctioned a grant of $90m to the Government of Tajikistan to assist the rehabilitation works on the Dushanbe-Kurgonteppa road.

The Tajikistan Government intends to make the road transport more reliable and safe through the proposed project.

Eight sections with a total length of 214km will be upgraded as part of the rehabilitation project.
