Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is set to open the Rashidiya Bridge in both directions this week.

The new bridge at the intersection of the Airport St is expected to facilitate traffic movement in the direction of Deira and Al Khawaneej.

Additionally, a host of bridges are expected to become operational in the next three months.

A new bridge at the intersection of Casablanca intersection is to become operational by the middle of this month, while a bridge constructed at the junction of Marrakech St opposite to Emirates Airline building will open next month.

The Expo Bridge in the direction of Dubai Aviation Engineering Project premises, and the new Nad Al Hamar Bridge in the direction of Airport St are scheduled to open by the end of March.

“Upon completion, the project is expected to increase the capacity of the Airport St by an additional 5,000 vehicles per hour.”

RTA Board of Executive Directors chairman and Director-General Mattar Al Tayer said: “The improvement of the Airport St project is part of RTA’s plans to accommodate the projected growth in the number of passengers using the Dubai International Airport, which is expected to shoot to 92 million passengers by 2020.

“The project comprises the construction of bridges at Rashidiya Intersection, bridges and a tunnel at Marrakech Intersection, and bridges at the intersections of Casablanca St and Nad Al Hamar St of the Airport St.”

Upon completion, the project is expected to increase the capacity of the Airport St by an additional 5,000 vehicles per hour.

Furthermore, the transit time on the Airport St from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Casablanca St will be reduced from 30 minutes to five minutes.

RTA is currently working to upgrade road networks and mass transit systems in Dubai Emirate, which will be safe for users and supports the Dubai Strategic Plan 2021.
