Spanish construction company Ferrovial has secured a €273m contract for the Rutas del Loa road project in Atacama, Chile.

The project will be executed by the company’s subsidiary Ferrovial Agroman.

Ferrovial Agroman will upgrade and widen a 111km segment in Calama and construct a 25km bypass to connect several roads.

Work also includes the construction of a 345m viaduct over the River Loa.

“Once it is completed, the Rutas del Loa road project is expected to minimise the impact on transport routes and utilities that run alongside the road.”

Intervial Chile will manage the infrastructure under a 40-year concession.

Ferrovial will work with the Ministry of Public Works and affected utilities to seek consensus solutions to complete work on the project.

Once it is completed, the Rutas del Loa road project is expected to minimise the impact on transport routes and utilities that run alongside the road.

Last month, the company secured a $201m contract through its subsidiary Webber for widening two highways, including  SH 146 and IH-10 in Texas, US.

Work on the two highways will be carried out as part of a project valued at $309m that is due to begin in January. The project is slated for completion within five years.

SH 146 will be widened to six lanes along a 4.36-mile stretch between Red Bluff Road and SH 96, south-east of Houston.

Additionally, the contract includes the construction of a 3.8km-long bridge over Galveston Bay.

Ferrovial Agroman has been operating in Chile for more than two years and is engaged in various building projects, including toll roads and airports businesses.

The company is also providing design and construction work on several of Cintra’s managed lane concessions in the US, such as I-66 in Virginia, the NTE expansion in Texas, and I-77 in North Carolina.
