Fugro Geoservices has won a £2.7m contract to offer ground investigation services of the A9 dualling programme for the carriageway in Scotland.

Contracted work includes ground investigations services for the Crubenmore to Kincraig section of the A9 route.

The 10-mile section will be upgraded to a dual carriageway as part of a broader plan to upgrade the A9 between Perth and Inverness.

Consultants CH2MHill / Fairhurst Joint Venture is providing design work for the project.

“These vital investigations are due to start later this month, with the work expected to last around 12 weeks.”

Transport, Infrastructure and Connectivity Cabinet Secretary Michael Matheson said: “Our work to deliver the ambitious A9 dualling programme is ongoing with design work continuing and advance works underway on the Luncarty to Pass of Birnam scheme with construction to start in the next few months.

“Having published the draft orders for the Crubenmore to Kincraig scheme, we are taking forward plans for ground investigations for the same scheme to help inform the ongoing design work.

“These vital investigations are due to start later this month, with the work expected to last around 12 weeks.”

National agency Transport Scotland said that the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) Stage 3 draft orders and environmental statement for the project have been published for formal comment on 4 September 2018.

A Transport Scotland spokesperson said: “As some of this work will take place on or near the live carriageway and in order to ensure the safety of both road workers and road users we will need to introduce traffic management arrangements when required.

“Road users and local communities will be kept informed of our plans and we will endeavour to ensure that any disruption is kept to a minimum.”
