Mobility data service provider HAAS Alert’s application has been approved for use in the network of FirstNet, an independent authority that aims to maintain an interoperable public safety broadband network in the US.

The app, known as HAAS Alert’s Responder-to-Vehicle (R2V) service, is designed to deliver real-time alerts to the drivers and connected cars through the app and in-vehicle systems when emergency vehicles are close by.

The solution, available for emergency departments and public safety operators, is expected to be effective in protecting motorists and first responders.

FirstNet AT&T product marketing manager Prathima Simha said: “When we learned about how HAAS Alert can protect first responders, we knew they’d be a great addition to the FirstNet Applications Ecosystem.”

It was selected following FirstNet’s indigenous app review process and is now available in the App Catalog, which comprises various apps for the first responder community.

First Responder Network Authority Technology and Innovation director Mark Golaszewski said: “Through our work with first responders, we heard their need for innovative applications to assist with their lifesaving mission.

“FirstNet is helping to address these needs, and we are pleased to welcome HAAS Alert’s app to the FirstNet App Catalog.”

HAAS Alert service is currently active and provides safety notifications to Waze users. It is also set to be integrated with other navigation apps and in-car systems in the future.

The company noted that in the next few years, HAAS Alert will be sending real-time alerts to around millions of drivers every day.
