A new survey has revealed that more than half of consumers use internet in cars, either directly or through a phone, while two-thirds would switch to a different entertainment service if it is readily available in their new vehicle.

The survey was commissioned by Metova, which provides mobile, connected car, connected home and Internet-of-things solutions.

In the survey, more than 1,200 of Metova’s US customers expressed their views regarding the technology in their vehicles.

“More than half of the participants who were surveyed said that they own a 2014 or newer model car and 80% expressed their happiness with the existing technology in their car.”

Metova CEO Josh Smith said: “This information from consumers demonstrates we have reached a tipping point on adoption and expectation for technology in the car.

“At Metova, we work with our partners throughout the world to understand their vision for connected car and home solutions to provide a complete technological path along with ongoing support to surpass their goal.”

More than half of the participants who were surveyed said that they own a 2014 or newer model car and 80% expressed their happiness with the existing technology in their car, while 88% users value new technology in their vehicles.

Two out of three respondents said that they would switch from their current entertainment service provider of choice to one that was included with their vehicle.

The survey further pointed out that one out of five new car buyers would abandon a potential new purchase regardless of price, brand, design, power, and MPG if it does not feature the latest connected technology.
