Samsung Electronics’ wholly owned subsidiary Harman International and French automaker Groupe PSA are working to build a comprehensive cybersecurity strategy for the latter’s new connected and autonomous vehicles platform.

The latest announcement marks a joint work relationship between the two companies for two years.

The partnership covers multiple projects, ranging from analysing potential threats to a feasibility study of advanced Intrusion Detection Systems for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), autonomous and next-generation vehicle network architectures.

Groupe PSA Connected Cars EE Architecture and Cybersecurity senior expert Eric DEQUI said: “Groupe PSA has been focusing on cyber for the last five years, launching a partnership with the Harman Automotive Cybersecurity team to leverage their expertise and define the necessary cybersecurity measures for Groupe PSA’s next-generation architecture.

“We have focused on implementing and evaluating Harman’s ECUSHIELD solution on a Peugeot Car to establish an Intrusion Detection System proof-of-concept.”

Harman Automotive Cybersecurity vice-president Yuval Weisglass said by adopting a security-by-design approach, developing unconventional detection and protection capabilities, semi-autonomous and ADAS systems can be protected against various types of cyber threats.

Weisglass added: “We’re honoured that Groupe PSA consistently selects Harman as its cybersecurity partner – a strong testament to Harman’s understanding of the intricate concerns and ultimate cybersecurity solutions required by the automotive industry.”

IHS Markit, in its recent report, noted that cybersecurity software and services revenues are estimated to exceed $250m by 2020, with 20% coming from IDPS software revenues.
