The Hertz Corporation and its fleet management subsidiary, Donlen, have partnered with global technology company Aptiv to deliver autonomous vehicle (AV) management and operational services in Las Vegas, US.

Aptiv’s technology is used to power safe and reliable AV operations in cities across the globe.

Las Vegas is serving as the initial North American commercial deployment market for Aptiv.

Aptiv Mobility and Services group chief technology officer and president Glen De Vos said: “Our partnership with Hertz will allow us to operate and maintain autonomous fleets at scale, a critical element of the offering that our on-demand mobility customers will require.

“This allows us to build on our expanding platform for managing AVs of the future while we leverage our expansive expertise and network managing our existing car rental and commercial fleets.”

“This relationship is an important step in the broader journey for Aptiv within the self-driving technology space.”

The two partners will leverage a phased approach to develop a standard process for AV operations in mobility-related fleets.

The initial programme is expected to be rolled out this year. It will involve the companies further improving and guiding the implementation of similar programmes in future markets.

Hertz senior vice-president and chief digitisation officer Michael Fisher said: “Hertz continues to innovate and execute winning strategies in the evolving mobility landscape. We’re pleased to announce this partnership with Aptiv, a leader in the development of autonomous driving technology.

“This allows us to build on our expanding platform for managing AVs of the future while we leverage our expansive expertise and network managing our existing car rental and commercial fleets of more than one million vehicles.”

Hertz operates the Hertz, Dollar and Thrifty vehicle rental brands in more than 10,200 corporate and franchisee locations across the world.
