Highways England has awarded extensions for all three of its regional technology maintenance contracts (RTMCs) to UK-based telent Technology Services.

Under the extended contracts, the company will continue to offer technology maintenance services in the east, south-east and M25 regions until mid-2021.

The contract also includes maintenance of assets that are said to be critical for effective and safe operation of England’s strategic road network (SRN).

telent RTMCs contract manager Steve Clarke said: “Our RTMC teams work extremely hard to ensure customer satisfaction and take great pride in their work, so I’m delighted that Highways England has recognised this by awarding these contract extensions.”

“Highways England said that most of this equipment form an integral part of smart motorways, which means it is essential to maintain it effectively.”

telent maintains more than 34,000 mission-critical assets across the three RTMCs, which include CCTV cameras, message signs and signal indicators, Midas equipment, weather stations, and emergency roadside telephones.

Additionally, the company manages National Traffic Information Service (NTIS) journey time outstations, Highway Agency Digital Enforcement Camera System (HADECS) and ramp metering sites.

Highways England said that most of this equipment form an integral part of smart motorways, which means it is essential to maintain it effectively.

telent business development director for Highways Nigel Weldon said: “telent has been delivering intelligent solutions and network maintenance for many years and we’re very proud to be maintaining England’s SRN.

“The smooth and efficient running of the SRN is vital for keeping travellers safe and to the growth of England’s economy, and I am very proud of the part that telent plays.”
