South Korean carmaker Hyundai has partnered with mapping and location services provider HERE Technologies in a bid to offer real-time traffic data and navigation solutions for drivers.

Under the partnership, certain Hyundai car models rolled out next year will receive real-time traffic and navigation information powered by HERE Technologies.

Hyundai models in North America equipped with navigation head unit displays, such as 2018 Elantra GT, Sonata, Tucson and Ionic, and the forthcoming Hyundai Kona, will receive the real-time traffic information at no additional cost.

The map updates will be provided by Hyundai’s Multimedia and Navigation Update Programme.

HERE Real-Time Traffic is reported to be the first global service that combines sensor data emitting from the connected car fleets.

HERE Technologies traffic product management director Alex Gordy said: “Real-time traffic information and fresh map data are essential tools for navigating today’s roadways.
