Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has awarded Iteris a five-year traffic signal synchronisation project.

Valued at $800,000, the project involves signal coordination and timing improvements within six counties at IDOT’s District One, including Cook, Lake, DuPage, Kane, Will and McHenry.

Under the agreement, Iteris will be responsible for optimising traffic signal coordination, as well as timing plans for the corridors that witness heavy traffic.

It will also be responsible for solving any of IDOT’S issues, complaints or requirements in short notice.

Iteris will prepare and review the traffic signal design and networking plans, along with other tasks issued by the district’s traffic programme engineer.

The project is aimed at improving traffic flow and safety by delivering updated signal synchronisation and timing along the analysed corridors.

Iteris Transportation Systems vice-president and assistant general manager Scott Carlson said: “We are proud to support IDOT’s goal of improving the safety and mobility of Illinois’ road users by embarking on this traffic signal synchronisation project.

“This initiative represents the continued expansion of Iteris’ traffic signal coordination services in the Midwest and will ultimately help to increase the value and effectiveness of the region’s existing transportation infrastructure, while also improving air quality and reducing fuel consumption.”

Last month, the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) in the US awarded a software-as-a-service (SaaS) contract to Iteris to implement its mobility intelligence solution. Iteris delivered its ClearGuide platform to enhance mobility across the state.

In July, Iteris completed the takeover of Albeck Gerken, a US-based traffic operations and engineering services provider.

In May, Iteris received a contract from OC 405 Partners for an expanded role in the I-405 Improvement Project in Southern California.

Prior to that, Transport Canada selected Iteris to help enhance nationwide transportation.
