US-based informatics company Iteris has received a contract from OC 405 Partners for an expanded role in the I-405 Improvement Project in southern California.

Under the $1.4m contract, the company will offer traffic manager support, construction operations and maintenance, and associated construction phase services for the project.

Iteris vice-president Steven Bradley said: “Since the I-405 Improvement Project’s launch in March 2017, Iteris has been proud to support this vital transportation initiative to make roads significantly safer and more efficient for residents and commuters.

“Iteris is thrilled to provide traffic manager support and staffing, as well as construction operations and maintenance services, in this new phase of the project.”

The new contracts with OC 405 Partners will leverage Iteris’s experience in ITS projects that enhance safety and mobility.

Iteris is responsible for the freeway intelligent transportation system (ITS) and develop the design of Express Lane infrastructure.

“The project is intended to cut travel times significantly for 370,000 daily southern California motorists.”

The company is also responsible for upkeep of temporary ITS infrastructure during construction, development of the project traffic management plan, and signal design at 42 intersections throughout the corridor.

The $1.9bn I-405 Improvement Project is being performed by Orange County Transportation Authority in association with the California Department of Transportation.

The project involves improving 16 miles of I-405 of road between the SR-73 freeway in Costa Mesa and I-605 near the LA County line.

Construction of one regular lane in each direction between Euclid Street and I-605, as well as making improvements to freeway entrances, exits and bridges will also be undertaken as part of the project.

In addition, the project will add the 405 Express Lanes by integrating the existing carpool lanes and a new lane in each direction between SR-73 and I-605.

Scheduled for completion by 2023, the project is intended to cut travel times significantly for 370,000 daily southern California motorists.

Recently, Transport Canada selected road network performance and management platform from Iteris to help enhance nationwide transportation.
