US-based applied transportation informatics provider Iteris has secured a sub-contract to provide operations services and staff to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District 7 regional traffic management centre (TMC) located in Tampa.

Iteris has expanded its operations services business in a key geographic market with the new $3.2m sub-contract agreement.

Under the sub-contract with Lucent Group, Iteris will be responsible for supplying TMC operations services and staff for a minimum of five years.

Iteris eastern region transportation systems vice-president and assistant general manager Moe Zarean said: “FDOT is demonstrating its commitment to improving traffic safety and efficiency in this key part of the state.

“By adopting ‘proactive operations culture’ for the TMC, Florida DOT intends to improve safety and efficiency of the transportation system.”

“We look forward to leveraging the expertise from our TMC staffing engagements across the country to resolve the issues facing freeways and arterial roads throughout District 7.”

Additionally, Iteris may perform other tasks that could include integrating future I-75 managed lanes to the regional TMC, co-management of arterial and freeway operations.

The company will also be responsible for overseeing design and construction of the new operator workstation floor layout.

By adopting ‘proactive operations culture’ for the TMC, Florida DOT intends to improve safety and efficiency of the transportation system.

Last month, Iteris secured a $3m three-year Wave 2 Traffic Engineering indefinite-delivery-indefinite-quantity contract from Texas Department of Transportation.

Iteris provides public and private entities with a comprehensive TMC solution, encompassing everything from design concept to installation, configuration and staffing.
