US-based applied transportation informatics provider Iteris has received service orders to provide traffic signal synchronisation services for the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority (SBCTA) in California.

The $2m service orders were awarded under a new $3.2m on-call contract for Iteris’ services across 15 cities in the San Bernardino Valley area.

Under the contract, Iteris will be responsible for preparing traffic signal coordination master plans and updating existing coordinated traffic signal timing plans, and will also perform semi-annual system assessments.

“Iteris will provide on-call system support and maintenance services for the heavily travelled 250-square-mile arterial network.”

Iteris Transportation Systems senior vice-president and general manager Ramin Massoumi said: “We are proud to support the SBCTA’s goal of improving the safety and mobility of its road users with this expansive traffic signal synchronisation project, which demonstrates demand for Iteris’ intersection-as-a-service offering and represents the continued expansion of our advanced signal timing services in southern California.

“This new initiative with the SBCTA will not only help to decrease travel times and overall traffic congestion but also improve air quality and reduce the existing transportation system’s impact on the environment.”

The project will focus on improving traffic flow and safety for all road users, including vehicles, buses, bicycles and pedestrians. It will also aim to reduce travel times and the number of stops along the San Bernardino Valley Coordinated Traffic Signal System (SBVCTSS) corridors.

Iteris will provide on-call system support and maintenance services for the heavily travelled 250-square-mile arterial network.

The initial service orders will address traffic signal timing improvements, semi-annual assessments and ongoing maintenance within cities and across jurisdictional boundaries for 1,250 signalised intersections.
