Global applied informatics company Iteris has won a contract from the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) in California, US, to provide traffic signal synchronisation project services.

The $3.5m contract will be valid for a period of three years. It will help to improve signal timing and safety across 16 miles and 59 intersections in Orange County, California.

Under the contract, Iteris will be responsible for improvements to the intelligent transportation system (ITS), traffic signal infrastructure, and signal timing along a 16-mile section of a major corridor with 59 signalised intersections.

“The traffic signal synchronisation project will improve traffic flow along a major corridor spanning six cities, including Anaheim, Fountain Valley, Garden Grove and Huntington Beach.”

Additionally, the company will design, implement, maintain and operate traffic signal technology and fibre-optic communications equipment.

Work will also include traffic signal synchronisation along the entire Brookhurst Street corridor, which is used by nearly 38,000 vehicles daily.

Iteris Transportation Systems vice-president and assistant general manager Scott Carlson said: “We are proud to support OCTA’s goal of improving the safety and mobility of Orange County’s road users by embarking on this traffic signal synchronisation project.

“This initiative represents the continued expansion of Iteris’ traffic signal coordination services in southern California and will ultimately help to increase the value and effectiveness of the region’s existing transportation infrastructure while also improving air quality and reducing fuel consumption.”

The traffic signal synchronisation project will improve traffic flow along a major corridor spanning six cities, including Anaheim, Fountain Valley, Garden Grove and Huntington Beach, as well as the California Department of Transportation District 12.

Iteris is planning to start work on the project soon.
