Kapsch TrafficCom has secured a contract from APRR, a highway concessionaire in France, to supply, implement and operate multi-lane free-flow (MLFF) tolling systems in the country.

APRR is a highway concessionaire of the Eiffage Group, which is said to be the second-largest French concessionaire, operating around 2,300km of highway.

The deployment of the MLFF tolling systems is expected to improve traffic flow on French highways, as well as decrease the environmental impact on the Route Centre Europe Atlantique (RCEA) highway.

Kapsch TrafficCom Western Europe, Middle East & Africa sales senior vice-president Nathalie Leboucher said: “This is a great success for us, showing that we are best-in-class in terms of performances and value for money. We are proud to start an exciting long-term partnership with APRR.”

APRR will deploy and operate an MLFF tolling system, and the new highway will open to traffic in 2022.

In addition to travel time reduction, the MLFF system is designed to improve the highway’s throughput, as well as reduce the number of incidents.

APRR is said to have tested several MLFF technologies offered by various companies and selected Kapsch TrafficCom as an industrial partner in the deployment of its first multi-lane free-flow system projects.

Last month, Kapsch TrafficCom secured a contract for providing technical operations for toll systems in Bulgaria.

Under the contract, Kapsch Traffic Solutions will be responsible for providing technical operations for the passenger vehicle e-vignette system and the electronic truck toll systems.

Kapsch Traffic Solutions will provide services for five years.
