The Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore has awarded a S$809m ($601m) contract to Samsung C&T to design and construct a stretch of the North-South Corridor (NSC).

Under the contract, Samsung C&T will be responsible for designing and constructing a 1.25km stretch of tunnels with two entry ramp tunnels and two exit ramp tunnels between Novena Rise and Toa Payoh Rise.

The company will also build pedestrian overhead bridges, sheltered linkways, bus stops and cycling paths along this stretch.

NSC was originally termed as North-South Expressway, covering a road stretch of nearly 21.5km that connects growing towns in the North region to the city centre.

The corridor is reported to be Singapore’s first integrated transport corridor, featuring continuous bus lanes and at-grade cycling trunk routes to serve public bus commuters, cyclists and pedestrians.

The project works are set to commence next year, with completion expected in 2026.

LTA intends to award the remaining civil contracts for the NSC in 2018/2019.

Based in South Korea, Samsung C&T has completed various road and railway infrastructure projects in Singapore.

The projects included construction of a 1.75km stretch of the Marina Coastal Expressway and Expo and Upper Changi Stations of the Downtown Line 3.
