Mobileye has selected Amazon Web Services (AWS) as its public cloud provider for its autonomous vehicle business.

Israeli automotive tech firm Mobileye will utilise AWS’s portfolio of services, such as compute, storage, analytics, database, machine learning, and edge computing, to provide car manufacturers with the latest self-driving applications.

Mobileye president and CEO Amnon Shashua said: “AWS gives us the most comprehensive set of services and the best performance so that we can provide our teams with the cloud capabilities required to deliver autonomous vehicles.”

“Making AWS our preferred Cloud provider aligns with our overall technical strategy and desired pace of innovation. We are becoming a more agile organisation on AWS, and continuing our 18-year history of leveraging the most advanced machine learning and deep learning technologies available.”

“Mobileye can now operate at peak performance, glean insights from their data, and speed up the development process.”

Mobileye will set up a data reservoir on Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3), thereby enabling the company to process, and analyse hundreds of petabytes of vehicle data collected through sensors, images, and video feeds.

Insights obtained from this data will enable the company to tweak its technology quickly.

AWS worldwide commercial sales vice-president Mike Clayville said: “With AWS, Mobileye is accelerating the introduction of technologies that automate driving tasks to make autonomous vehicles a reality.

“Mobileye can now operate at peak performance, glean insights from their data, and speed up the development process required to put self-driving vehicles on the roadway much faster.”

In 2017, Mobileye was acquired by Intel for more than $15bn. Mobileye also teamed up with Volkswagen in October to deploy driverless, electric ride-sharing service in Israel.
