Intelligent traffic management information services provider Iteris has been awarded a five-year $1.2m contract by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) to implement its flagship traffic analytics product, iPeMS.

The company will deploy and manage ongoing operation and maintenance of the iPeMS cloud-based analytics software.

Iteris currently operates and maintains Virginia’s 511/Traveler Information System, along with being a part of a team recruited to deliver operations and engineering services for five of VDOT’s traffic operation centres.

Iteris president and CEO Abbas Mohaddes said: "With the MAP-21 regulatory requirements forthcoming, we expect VDOT to leverage iPeMS as an effective tool to not only measure and manage their transportation network, but to also report improvements."

The iPeMS software platform, iPerform’s performance management suite measures, manages and visualises transportation networks, offering real-time information to improve the flow of the entire network.

iPeMS enables Iteris to provide the latest cloud-based services for enhanced performance monitoring, traffic prediction, and hyper-local weather conditions to the public marketplace.

Earlier this year, Iteris signed an agreement with Tinga to provide the former’s products on Tinga’s AIR Exchange (AIREX), the cloud-based independent marketplace. Under the deal, Iteris’ traffic and weather information products and services are offered on the AIREX to help asset managers, hedge funds, registered investment advisors, corporate buyers, and other investment professionals.
