The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has selected the I-4 Mobility Partners team as the best value proposer for the I-4 Ultimate Project in Orange and Seminole counties.

The project involves reconstructing 15 major interchanges, building over 145 bridges, adding four variable priced toll express lanes in the median, and completely rebuilding general use lanes along the entire corridor.

Under the public-private partnership project, the I-4 Mobility Partners will manage design, build, finance and provide operations and maintenance services.

The selected team includes Skanska, John Laing Investments, Construction Joint Venture – Skanska USA Civil Southeast, Granite Construction, and the Lane Construction, HDR Engineering and Jacobs Engineering Group, and Infrastructure Corporation of America.

Among the additional technical improvements to be delivered by the I-4 Mobility Partners team are direct connections from I-4 express lanes to SR 408, capacity improvements through additional auxiliary lanes and turn lanes, and pedestrian bridges.

John Laing Primary Investments managing director Derek Potts said that this is an important milestone in the delivery of improvements to the I-4 through a public private-partnership.

"We hope I-4 will become a vehicle for demonstrating the collaboration between the public and the private sectors in order to deliver infrastructure improvements in the most effective way," Potts added.

Construction on the project is expected to begin in 2015, with completion scheduled for 2021.

The I-4 Ultimate project has been developed to improve safety and mobility through the creation of Express Lanes in 21 miles of Interstate 4 from west of Kirkman Road to east of State Road 434.
